What advice would you give to others thinking about taking this course?

·
If you are able to take the course on campus, do it, especially if you struggle with Math. It would be easier having a professor explain it than trying to make sense of this confusing book.

·         I would say dont fall behind and Get tutoring if you are lacking in any area. I would also say the Professor Buske is very helpful

·         none.

·         I would tell them that if they are the type of student that responds best to in person teaching not to take this course.

·         Take it online!

·         You dont have to rush yourself but try and stay at a steady pace.  Make sure you watch the videos and if you have questions you the discussion room.

·         If you watch the videos, do the assigned problems, and keep up, it is not a difficult course.

·         Stay on task.  It might be very hard to when it comes to summer, but keep it up.  Also, make sure you watch the movies and finish the homework.  Try different ways each week or chapter with accomplishing these tasks.

·         Stay on top of the work, watch the videos often and start strong.

·         You have to be a determined person. Know what you personally need to do in the class to succeed because it is different for everyone.

·         Don’t fall behind!!!

·         Don't hesitate to ask for help

·         Stay on track with the timeline Buske makes available for you.  It helps to keep you on track.  I fell off the timeline for a week and found myself behind but I eventually caught up.

·         I would recommend taking this course if you are good at math. If it's hard for you to grasp mathematical concepts you might get frustrated and overwhelmed.
Advice would be to stay on track on and pace yourself.

·         Stay on task. At one point in my course work I fell behind by about 2 weeks and it was extremely difficult to catch up.

Advice from Fall 2008 students

What advice would you give to others thinking about taking this course?

- Don't take it with other hard classes, try to take it when you have other easier classes that you enjoy.
- Watch the videos.
- It's a great course if you are prepared to put in the time to thoroughly read the material and work through the problems at the end of the chapters.
- this is not a course for those who cant self motavate and for those who need to be taught and cant teach themselves
- DONT DO IT ONLINE
- MAKE SURE YOU STAY ON TRACK!!!!  I fell behind a little bit and I definitely got stressed out because of it.  Also, STUDY for the FINAL!  IT is a lot harder to remember all of the semester's information than you think.

What advice would you give to others thinking about taking this course?

·         Unless you are the type of person who can just read a book and learn on your own I would recomend taking this class in a classroom and not online

·         It aint no joke, this class online makes you really think how bad do you want this.

·         Don't underestimate the hard work needed to succeed.  It will make you crazy by the time it is over.

·         Take advantage of the videos.

·         Don't fall behind.  If you're like me and can't find a testing center, don't let that stop you from continuing on to the next chapters... at least if you want to pass.

·         this math online is not for those who have been out of school 20+ years, needs to be taken in classroom for most. A few things are items that have been forgotten over time or not covered during past generations of school. Got a easy "A" in Math 070, got my backside kicked in online 193

·         Keep up and don't fall behind and take the exams close to the exam dates.

·         KEEP UP ON YOUR DAILY WORK.  Falling behind just makes the course more of a struggle in the end.

·         Don't take it online, unless you are good in math and not a percrastinator.

Response

Stay disciplined and keep doing just a little bit every day. If you stay on top of it it is so much easier!

Even when the really really hard chapters seem impossible to get through, keep trudging along. It will all pay up in the end.

Also, remember to show your work! I can't stress that enough, show your work!

Response

Watch the videos. I found the videos Dr. Buske made to be a great help. They help clarify topics you may not understand just by reading.

Response

If math is very difficult for you it may be better to take this course in a classroom. Dr. Buske provides great lecture videos and the homework assignments help you practice but if you are the type who needs to ask questions and see many examples this may not be the class for you.
If you need an online course I couldn't recommend a better one. You definately need to apply yourself and do the work but you really do learn something.

Response

Dont put the exams off until last minute. :)

Response

It is advisable to get a tutor to help you through this course if you are weak in math. Also, be prepared to forge ahead and hopefully you will pass through sheer tenacity.

Response

Don't try to do it online

Response

dont take this class if your looking for a good grade. if your just looking to be done with math and are self motivated take this class. also make sure to watch all the lectures and take notes on them.

Response

Make sure to pace yourself and take the practice quizes and tests.

Response

I would tell them to not wait to do assignments, follow the instructor outline as much as you can.

Response

plan on using different types of mathematical thinking.

Response

Make sure to watch the lectures. They are way more extensive than the book on most subjects.

Response

Do not fall behind, you will start to panic. The course is outlined in a timely manner, if you fall behind, you will probably never catch up or feel overwhelmed.

Response

I would tell them to make sure they do the problems in the book and to pay attention when watching the videos and they will do fine.

Response

My advice to someone that was thinking about taking this course would be to not take it online. I think it would had been way easier to be in class.

Response

Pace yourself closely with the suggested schedule

Response

This class was very interesting, however I would strongly suggest taking the class at Saint Cloud in a real time classroom.
The instructor in this particular class Was very encouraging and helped remind you to stay on task which was very helpful.

Response

Set your own agenda and timeframe that will work for you - don't get discouraged if you are falling behind the recommended schedule. As long as you stay determined and driven you'll make it... trust me.

Response

Don't get frustrated. Ask for help.
STAY ON SCHEDULE!!!

Response

Make sure to do your homework and watch all the videos. The last two exam review worksheets are very very very good review.

Response

Stay on schedule! I was talking to another girl in the computer testing lab before taking the final, and she was taking the same class but thought it was really hard because she had procrastinated. I thought it was managable because I stayed (mostly!) on schedule.

Response

Prepare to spend a lot of time working on this class.

Response

stay on task.. keep up with the schedual

Response

This course takes TIME! You really do have to do, and understand, all the assigned problems, and view (or attend) all the lectures. The online version allows for repeating material via videos and reworking problems; take advantage of this.

Response

Do all of the problems in the book for the homework assignments!!!! Also be sure to take all of the practice quizzes and practice exams!

Response

Stay On TRACK!! don't get behind and use recommended schedule

Response

set aside a good amount of time! i spend so much time on this class, math doesnt come easily to me but i pulled through it with a lot of hard work!

Response

Follow the course schedule, be open to asking questions and just know that online courses do require a bigger time committement to teach the materials to your self However Dr. Buske is great, and there are plenty of resources and the course is very manageable.

Response

make sure you have time to do all the work, especially if math isn't your strong suit.

Response

if you must take a math course, take this course with this instructor

Response

Take it with Buske, utilize the discussion boards, do NOT wait until the last minute like I did (or you'll be doing math nonstop for about 3 or 4 weeks), do your project before taking the Chapter 3 exam, and do the homework problems.

Response

I would take the course in the class room.

Response

It's hard but you can do it.
