Doubt/Debunk (Being Skeptical)
With the "stones" of critical analysis they cast at themselves scientists build
new "roads."
The principle of doubt, or self-criticism, in science requires that all
statements claimed to be factual must be rejected until they are shown to be
correct by experimental inquiry. This means that all statements of "mental"
phenomena must currently be doubted. Only if these phenomena can be
demonstrated to be correct by careful experimental inquiry will they be
acceptable. A scientist imposes this self-editing on himself/herself.
Using this structure, it is necessary to be extremely careful in explaining
traditional "mental phenomena" in behavioral-analysis terms.
