3) Driving Directions: The quickest route from San Francisco is to take Highway 101 north. At Healdsburg (70 miles north of San Francisco) take the Dry Creek Road exit. Turn left. Go to Lake Sonoma Park* (12 miles) and continue past Lake Sonoma Park Visitors’ center about 1 mile and turn left onto Skaggs Springs Road/Stewart’s Point Road. Notice sign: “Camp Gualala 25 miles”. (At this point, you should check your mileage, and make sure to count the 25 miles, since there aren't many landmarks among all the redwoods). From San Francisco proper this should take roughly 2.5 hours; from SFO airport, it will be about 3 hours.
The alternate route is to take Highway 101 north to Santa Rosa, then head west on Highway 12 towards Bodega Bay. Here you pick up Highway 1 going north to Stewart’s Point. Turn right (east) on Stewart’s Point Road, and go 9 miles inland. This takes about 45 minutes longer, but the coastline north of Bodega Bay is spectacularly beautiful. If you have the time, we highly recommend it.
