2 April Trip to München

This was a return trip to spend more time walking around to see some of the sights. We walked through Karlsplatz and Marianplatz, with a visit to the Frauenkirche. Our visit to the Marienplatz to watch the Glockenspiel was disrupted by a large rally of the socialist party. All that, and the clock didn't put on the 11:00 show. The main part of the visit was about 3.5 hours in the Deutsches Museum followed by walking around town and a stop in the Hofbräuhaus before heading back to the train. The last bit of sight seeing was a confrontation between a neo-Nazi group and some of the socialists at the train station. There were enough police around to keep things reasonably calm.

Karlstor

One of the city gates at the entrance to the downtown Fussgangerzone.

Travelers

Beginning of the day, so everyone is still happy.

Frauenkirche

Church of Our Lady. We climbed the tower on the right.

Frauenkirche

View from the tower. You can see the masses gathering in the Marienplatz for their rally.

Frauenkirche

Another view from the tower. A little too hazy to see the mountains.

Frauenkirche

Inside the church.

Marienplatz

We walked into a Socialist Rally in the Marienplatz. At least they also had a band.

Marienplatz

Neue Rathaus behind the masses.

Marienplatz

The Glockenspiel just sat there and skipped the 11:00 show. Bummer.

Isartor

This is another of the city gates heading out from the Marienplatz.

Us

The long trek down to the Deutsches Museum.

Deutches Museum

Rest Break

I guess the museum wore everyone out.

Hauptbahnhof

A little impromptu "rally" by the neo-Nazis was the last event of the day.
