2007 International Meeting of the Soil Science Society of America
In November 2007, Erin Bastry, Andrew Dotseth, Dan Nadeau, Joe Storlien, Mitch Bender and Chuck Rose attended the 2007 International Meeting of the Soil Science Society of America in New Orleans, LA. Dan, Joe, Mitch and Chuck presented poster papers, while Erin and Andrew interned. Also attending the meeting was former Research Group members, Jake Galzki and Sarah Sewell. Below are a few photos of from the meeting.

Joe Storlien, a Research Group mentor, presenting his poster paper entitled "Risk Assessment of Manure Basin Abandonment Alternative" in the Graduate Research Competition (Faculty Sponsor: Mitch Bender). Joe also presented another paper (oral) entitled "Manure Basin Storage Abandonment Alternatives and Water Quality Improvement" (Faculty Sponsor: Mitch Bender).

Brian Sanoski, a Research Group mentor, was unable to attend the meeting, but his poster paper entitled "Nutrient and Coliform Source Identification in the Getchell Creek Watershed" was presented by Mitch Bender (Faculty Sponsor: Mitch Bender).

Jake Galzki, a former Research Group member, presenting his poster paper entitled "Investigation of Feedlot Contribution to Coliform Contamination in the Sauk River" (Faculty Sponsor: Mitch Bender). Jake is now pursuing his Masters at the University of Minnesota.

Sarah Sewell, a former Research Group member, presenting her poster paper entitled "Influence of Lawn Management Practices on Water Quality in Six Sandpit Lakes in Eastern NE". Sarah is now pursuing her Masters at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Chuck Rose, Research Group advisor, presenting his poster paper entitled "Long-term Vegetation and Dissolved Oxygen Dynamics in a Prairie Pothole Wetland".

2006 Minnesota Association of Professional Soil Scientists
In December 2006, Joe Storlien, Dan Nadeau and Matt Lenz attended the 2006 Winter Meeting of the Minnesota Association of Professional Soil Scientists in St. Cloud, MN.

Research Group Meetings
In regular group meetings, members discuss research. In 2006, Jake Galzki served as group leader and Joe Storlien (now a graduate student) served as a mentor.

Outreach and Service
Group members have also volunteered to teach children about our natural resources.

Dan Nadeau, Brian Sanoski and Tim Carlson (left to right) taught kids about characteristics of soil at the Wright County Field Day for 5th graders (September 2006).
