Exam 1: closed book, open (handwritten) notes. Undergraduates come at 5 pm. Graduates come at appointed times (15 min before you are scheduled): i.e. Campbell at 5, Ege 5:10, Kroll 5:20, Ryan 5:30, Criswell 5:40, Ries 5:50, Hopps 6 pm.

Undergraduates should prepare for the test based on lectures (all notes posted), 4 homework assignments, and textbopok readings. Dodo book questions below should also be used to study. Exam will be a combination of multiple choice, matching, short answer questions and questions based on pictures or photos.

Graduates click here to get the list of questions you can expect to get at the test. You will get TWO of these each. You should be able to prepare your answer in <15 minutes and answer in <10 minutes. You can use your handwritten notes to get ready, but not the textbook or printed notes from the internet.

  • where did Wallace spend most of his time doing field work (two places)?
  • what was his major discovery in Malay Archipelago?
  • what is the significance of Madagascar tenrecs?
  • explain why the punchline of Wallace paper was really a punchline (p. 41)
  • sloth monkeys' distribution in the Amazon - what's the pattern? how explained? (p. 75)
  • what did Wallace discover on Aru Islands?
  • what happened on July 1, 1858? (p. 113)
  • where do the giant tortoises live worldwide? (p. 120)
  • look up the list of curious creatures native only to islands (p. 137) - are there any common traits that they all (or some of them) share? Some of these may be perfect for your projects!
  • p. 140  - become familiar with these terms
  • what do komodo dragons eat? why do you think they grow to be so large?
