Speech Anxiety Reduction

Speech Anxiety Reduction Program (SARP)

Presenting ideas to a group of people is America's most vital yet feared task. For some people this fear has created a vicious circle of ever-increasing tension and poor performance. In order to deal with this problem the Communication Studies Department at St. Cloud State University has developed a one credit course called the Speech Anxiety Reducation Program (CMST 171). It is designed to help indivdiuals who feel nervous or stressful in communication situations, such as making presentation, interviewing for a job, meeting people and speaking English as a second language.

This course does not involve delivering formal presentations. In the program participants will learn how to control anxieties through visualization, relaxation, and group discussions. Students listen to a series of cassette tapes and participate in group discussions (meeings) scheduled to meet each individual's need and availability.

If you have questions about the course, please contact Joanna K. Pucel, Director of SARP, MS 159. Call 320-255-2216 or e-mail at JPucel@stcloudstate.edu.
