Sample--Problem Identification

Goal: To convince the audience that a problem does exist and should be addressed.

Time limit: 8-10 minutes

Presentation should exhibit the following:

• clearly identifiable claim about the nature of the problem;
• clearly developed and logical argument(s) and relevant evidence;
• logical organization;
• appropriate adaptation to assignment and the class, including time limit;
• effective delivery; and
• well designed and presented handouts or visual aids that add to audience understanding of the process or technique.

Evidence of preparation:

• audience analysis worksheet
• speaking outline;
• preparation outline;
• bibliography of sources; and
• copy of handouts or visual aids.
