SETTING GOALS

Clear goals for an oral presentation assignment benefit both the faculty member and the students.

When an instructor writes goals for an oral presentation assignment he or she

  • Clarifies for her or himself the reasons for making the assignment.
  • Can link the purposes for the assignment to the assignment description and the criteria used to evaluate the presentation more easily.

When students are presented with clear goals for an oral presentation they can

  • See the value of the assignment more easily.
  • Prepare their presentations to meet the goals articulated.
  • Understand the criteria used in evaluation.
