The following suggestions for faculty were made by students in a survey conducted by the website authors:

Provide information (lots of it).

  • Provide information well in advance of the actual presentations.
  • Provide handouts rather than simply discussing the assignment orally.
  • Provide clear goals or purposes for the assignment.
  • Provide time frames or limits for the presentation.

Provide examples or samples when possible.

  • Sample outlines
  • Sample topics
  • Videotaped examples of previous, successful presentations

Provide possible information sources

Provide evaluation criteria or the evaluation or critique sheet.

Provide time in class

  • For groups to meet
  • For questions and answers about the assignment
