Informative Speaking

 

Informative Speaking Speakers present new information, develop or reinforce audience understanding of information.

Effective informative presentations should exhibit

  • Appropriate adaptation to audience understanding and knowledge of topic,
  • Clearly presented thesis,
  • Specific purpose or goal for presentation,
  • Clear organization, and
  • Credible and relevant supporting materials.

You may also wish to require

  • Visual aids or handouts to add to or reinforce audience understanding, or
  • Q & A period to clarify and elaborate audience understanding

TYPES OF ASSIGNMENTS

Informative Briefing--Speakers share information to encourage the discussion of information, ideas and insights among audience members.

 

Technical Report--Speakers present clear, concise and detailed explanations of processes, techniques, procedures, or new ideas.

 

Question & Answer Period--Unrehearsed or impromptu answers to audience questions that test and probe the speaker's knowledge and understanding.
