Original SCSU Meteorologist Alan Anderson Retires

After 38 years of teaching, Professor Alan Anderson has taught his final class. Alan taught his final class during the Fall Semester 2003. Alan obtained his Bachelors' Degree in Earth Sciences at SCSU and began teaching at Saint Cloud State University in 1965, after finishing his Master's Degree at Colorado State University. Alan was an original member of the Earth Science Department and its only meteorologist when it formed in 1976. Alan was also primarily responsible in the development of the B.S. Meteorology program in 1988. Alan's National Science Foundation grant obtained the equipment that began the transformation of the weather lab from a DIFAX printer and a phone line to the Minnesota Weather Wire to the modern weather lab with real-time weather data now found in MS 21. While being the most senior meteorology faculty, Alan became the department UNIX and McIDAS expert, primarily responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the Weather Lab's computers. Alan also served as Department Chair during 1998-2001 and was a member of the UNIDATA Users Steering Committee. Alan is also a private pilot and developed the Aviation Meteorology course. He has also served as a Treasurer for the SCSU Aero Club and has provided transportation for other faculty to conferences and meetings. The EAS department wishes Alan well during his retirement.
