Birds –the only bright spot from November to April
Some tundra swans appeared for a while in the open water below the 10th-street dam
One day this trio were to be seen;

Standing barefoot on ice is cold!

The local Cooper’s hawk came around in early winter, right in the front-yard aspen, but scorned to pose properly for me:

The suet feeder has been a big draw for Downy Woodpeckers

Less so for Chickadees and nuthatches:


Pine Siskins replaced Goldfinches at the thistle feeder for the winter,

and sometimes Common Redpolls

enjoyed thistle seed, but always on the ground:


Chickadees visit the aspen every midmorning to hunt bugs,

OK, so I guess winter’s not that bad.
