"classical Monday Pops"

The Monday Pops were "popular concerts of classical music" held on Mondays by Chappell and Company "in St. James Hall, opened in 1858 on part of the site of what is now the Piccadilly Hotel" (Ayre 244; Green 435 n. 81).


This discussion is based on the definition of the word pops in the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, which requires a little explanation.
