As in the past, we asked a single question---proud to be an SCSU student---for University Communications.  Table 2 shows the findings from this year and from 2001.  This year the percent of respondents who are always proud to be an SCSU student declined by 10 percent from 2001.  Since the percent of respondents who are usually proud to be an SCSU student increased by approximately 10 percent from last year and the remaining categories stayed the same, we have concluded a shift of about 50 students occurred from the always proud category to the usually proud category.  An examination of the Greatest Challenges Table (see SCSU Student Survey 2002 Report) might aid speculation on why this shift occurred.

An examination of Table 3 shows no differences between male and females in terms of pride as an SCSU student.  Students who reside on campus are more likely to be always proud of their SCSU student status than are off campus residents.  Similarly, students who are in their first years as an SCSU student are more likely to always be proud to be an SCSU student than are students who are more senior.  The other category in class standing is composed mostly of graduate students.  The trend is clear--as someone matures as an SCSU student, his or her pride in his or her student status diminishes.  In terms of ethnic status, it is clear Caucasian students are more likely to always be proud to be an SCSU student compared to students of color.  Almost twice the percent of Caucasian students compared to students of color are always proud.  At the same time, more then twice the percent of students of color are not very often proud to be an SCSU student.  Of the students included in the analysis, 401 reported to SCSU their race as Caucasian and 33 as students of color.  Finally, American students are generally prouder than international students to be an SCSU student.
