The trio established its name in honor of Federico Garcia Lorca, Spanish poet and playwright, whose poetry George Crumb set to music in his Madrigals, Book II. It was this composition the musicians first played as an ensemble and has since become their sentimental favorite. Performances by Trio Lorca are carefully programmed to be accessible to a wide range of audiences, full of variety and innovation, and yet maintain a sense of fun. Each performance features the ensemble in various combinations—as solo, duo, or trio. Trio Lorca's repertoire is widely varied, ranging from traditional Spanish folk songs to the avant garde compositions of George Crumb. The trio's repertoire includes music commissioned specifically for this group, but also adaptations of works from standard and contemporary repertoire. Trio Lorca is especially excited about its most recent commission, Tierra de luz, composed by flutist Melissa Krause, which will be premiered in the spring of 2004. Trio Lorca is dedicated to presenting artistic performances to audiences throughout Central Minnesota and are equally committed to the advancement of young musicians. Trio members are able to present masterclasses or clinics in many different areas. |
